Art & Injara Workshop
Yesterday, in collaboration with 1:1 Centre, we hosted an Art-Making Workshop in order to explore the theme of Home and to open the Refugee Day Festivities. Led by our wonderful and talented resident artist and Education Coordinator, Katherine Elise, together with Anastasiya Chernousand Afwerki Teame, people from all backgrounds came together to draw, share stories and create. Within a crowded room, with delicious Injera provided by our neighbour Akele Guzai cafe and music playing, the meaning and imagery of 'Home' came to life.
The next part of our collaborative community art project will take place this Thursday as a part of our
Refugee Day Festival. Katherine and Afwerki will be taking the images and stories created in the workshop and curating a beautiful mural, that will be a public work in South Tel Aviv. Come and join us to make this painting come alive! All are welcome, artist and non-artist.
This event is one of many in honour of world refugee day, including a film screening, book release, theater premiere and other events that celebrate the power of the asylum seeker community through art. You're all invited to join!
We want to thank again Katherine who coordinated this event with sensitivity and talent, Nastia from Story In My Eyes organisation who helped us with organisation and materials, Omer Krieger from 1:1 center who turned out as a wonderful DJ, and Tchelet Conservation of Wall Paintings organisation, for generously supplying materials.
The biggest thank is reserved to all the amazing participants of the Neve Shaanan Art Forum that came to this event! See you Thursday :)
